What is the G1 Test in Ontario?
In Ontario, the G1 knowledge test is the first step toward getting your driver’s licence. To pass, you must score at least 80% on the theory test, proving you understand road signs, traffic rules, and safe driving practices.
The G1 license allows you to drive under the supervision of a fully licensed driver with at least 4 years of experience. The supervising driver must have a Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) below 0.05, while G1 drivers must maintain a zero BAC (0.00) at all times. You must be at least 16 years old to apply.
Before you take the test, learn everything you need to know about the rules, understand road signs, and start practising with free G1 tests to pass on your first attempt.
Why is the G1 license important?
You’ll get your G1 license after passing your written exam. It is like a learner’s permit in Ontario, which allows new drivers to begin their driving journey under strict supervision.
The G1 license is important because it helps you develop defensive driving habits. The rules and restrictions are meant to ensure that new drivers gradually gain experience to keep themselves and others safe while driving on the road. The G1 Rules and Restrictions are enforced under Ontario’s driving law.
